Smart Music for Band Students

Picture
Hello music students. If you have been doing some of the activities on this page, you might notice that there are no lessons directed toward band students. Most band students may not have access to their instruments, so the lessons have been music concept based and not specific to a band instrument. If you would like more information, read the statement from the Superintendent below.

If you have your instrument, I would like to introduce you to smart music. Please click link below to watch my video explaining how to sign up and use Smart Music

Fine Arts Instruction during Dismissal

Fine Arts instruction is an important part of a student’s educational experience as well as part of the Utah State Core. We value the progress students have made in dance, theater, music, and visual art classes in all of our schools and look forward to resuming standard classes again soon.

However, because fine arts classes are participatory by nature, often team-based, and require specific materials, (i.e. instruments, art supplies, etc.), instruction will have to be altered during the school dismissal.

In an effort to limit exposure to others, we are asking that students and parents do not come to schools to retrieve instruments, supplies, projects, etc.  Teachers will provide instruction and activities that can be accomplished without requiring specific equipment.

Activities should be based on individual growth and concept mastery instead of targeted whole-class progress.

Music Class Escape Room

Music Class Escape Room

Have you ever been in an escape room? Escape rooms are popular because they can challenge people who love puzzles, games and problem-solving activities. In groups, escape rooms can be away of developing teamwork. A USA today article attributes the popularity similar to that of crossword puzzles and Rubiks cube when they came out because they can challenge your thinking and problem-solving skills.

While we can’t go to a real escape room, this activity can definitely fill the bill for challenging those who like solving puzzles. For some, it may be easy and for some it may be more difficult. However, it is a good way to learn or review musical concepts.

Directions
1.Review videos for lines and space names from videos.

Beethoven and the Bach Boys

Picture
Ludvig Von Beethoven is probably the most popular composer in music history. Another very important composer who influenced many others was Johan Sebastien Bach or J.S. Bach. PDQ Bach on the other hand is not a real person. However, it would be very cool if he was. Peter Schickele has had a long career combining his great sense of humor with his vast knowledge of music composition.

Instructions:
1. Watch the video
2. Click on the link below to answer questions
3. Check out more about Peter Schickele on his website or YouTube.
